Safety Policy

OUR AIM IS TO PROVIDE PARAGLIDING GUIDING TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS AND TO MAKE THE TRAINING ENVIRONMENT AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE.

In order to achieve this aim we have critically assessed each facet of the training system, and introduced every practical safeguard to minimise risk to any client or bystander.

SITES

The flying sites we use are suitable for all levels of qualified paraglider pilot, but they may contain hazards.  A site briefing will normally be given by a Sunsoar guide on arrival at a new site, but qualified pilots are expected to be capable of assessing a site for themselves.  If in doubt please ask before you fly.

WEATHER

The weather is beyond our control, but we can all choose whether to fly or not.  The duty Sunsoar guide will make a judgement call as to whether the day is safe and suitable for paragliding.  He will use all available forecasting data to do this, including internet weather forecasts and local knowledge.  However, qualified pilots are expected to make their own assessment of the conditions for their level of skill and experience.

If the weather proves unfavourable the duty guide reserves the right to cancel flying activities or reccomend a delay to reassess the conditions later.

EQUIPMENT

Clients are responsible for ensuring their own flying related equipment is suitable and serviceable before every flight.

Every pilot must wear a properly fitting helmet at all times that they are connected to a paraglider.

A first aid kit will be carried by all Sunsoar guides and all clients are advised to carry their own personal first aid kits.

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

Any client suspected of consuming alcohol or other drugs that could affect their ability to function at peak efficiency will be stopped from flying.

GUIDES

All guiding will be carried out by BHPA approved and qualified instructors or local guides under the supervision of a Sunsoar instructor.

  • All Sunsoar guides will be suitably first aid qualified.

  • All guides are chosen for their local knowledge of a flying area on any particular trip.
